Chicago, IL – The City of Chicago has activated cooling areas at its six community service centers due to extreme heat. These centers operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering residents a respite from the high temperatures. Visitors are required to wear face coverings while in the cooling areas. According to the Chicago Police Department, the Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS) will provide free face coverings for those who do not have one.
The cooling centers are located at:
– Englewood Center, 1140 W. 79th Street
– Garfield Center, 10 S. Kedzie Ave.
– King Center, 4314 S. Cottage Grove
– North Area Center, 845 W. Wilson Ave.
– South Chicago Center, 8650 S. Commercial Ave.
– Trina Davila Center, 4312 W. North Ave.
Additionally, residents can find relief at more than 75 Chicago Public Library locations, numerous Chicago Park District fieldhouses, and 176 splash pads throughout the city. These resources aim to provide accessible cooling options for residents during periods of extreme heat, ensuring public safety and comfort.
