Champaign, IL – A violent stabbing incident early Saturday left one man dead and a woman critically injured in Champaign, prompting a murder investigation and the arrest of a 23-year-old suspect in nearby Rantoul.
According to the Champaign Police Department, officers responded to the 1600 block of W. Healey at 12:03 a.m. on March 22, 2025, after receiving a report of a stabbing. At the scene, officers located a 22-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, both from Champaign, with multiple stab wounds. The woman was transported to a local hospital and remains in critical condition. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Champaign County Coroner.
Police say initial findings indicate the victims were attacked inside their residence by someone they knew. After the attack, the pair ran outside seeking help, and the suspect fled. With help from other local agencies, officers located and arrested Alex Muanambata, 23, at a residence in Rantoul. He faces charges of First-Degree Murder and Attempted Murder. Additional charges are pending.
