Little Rock, AR — A potent weather system is set to move across Arkansas on Sunday, bringing the risk of damaging winds and large hail to much of the southern, central, and eastern portions of the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe thunderstorms is in effect from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 23. Storms are expected to develop along the I-30/I-57 corridor before spreading southeast as a cold front advances across the region.
Primary hazards include wind gusts exceeding 60 mph and hail up to 2 inches in diameter. Cities including Little Rock, Pine Bluff, El Dorado, and West Memphis fall within the affected area. While the tornado threat remains low, it cannot be entirely ruled out, especially in far southeastern Arkansas.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects, monitor weather updates, and avoid unnecessary travel during the peak storm period. Power outages and tree damage may occur due to high winds.
Historically, March storms in Arkansas have caused similar damage, underscoring the importance of preparedness. The National Weather Service recommends having multiple ways to receive alerts and a safety plan in place before storms arrive.
