St. Louis, Missouri – Another stretch of bitter winter weather is expected across the St. Louis region through the weekend, with flurries possible today and dangerous wind chills developing late tonight into Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, light flurries may occur this afternoon and evening, mainly along and south of Interstate 70. Any snow accumulation is expected to be minimal, but brief slick spots could develop on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.
The more significant concern will be the cold. As skies partially clear overnight, temperatures are expected to drop sharply. Early Saturday morning wind chills between -5°F and -15°F are forecast across much of eastern Missouri and southwest Illinois. These conditions can pose a risk of frostbite with prolonged outdoor exposure.
Daytime highs on Saturday are expected to remain cold, ranging from 15 to 25 degrees, offering little relief from the overnight chill. Saturday night will remain mostly clear and cold, with low temperatures falling to -2°F to +5°F in many areas.
By Sunday morning, another round of cold air will bring wind chills between +5°F and -5°F, especially during the early morning hours. Afternoon temperatures are expected to rebound modestly, reaching the mid-20s to upper 30s by Sunday afternoon.
Travel impacts today should be limited, but motorists along Interstate 70, Interstate 64, Interstate 55, and Interstate 255 should remain alert for isolated slick spots where flurries occur. The cold temperatures may also affect vehicle reliability, particularly during the overnight and early morning hours.
The National Weather Service urges residents to dress in layers, limit time outdoors during the coldest periods, and ensure pets and vulnerable individuals are protected from the cold. Those traveling overnight or early Saturday should allow extra time and keep emergency winter supplies in their vehicles.
