St. Louis, Missouri – A narrow band of snow and wintry mix could coat parts of the metro before sunrise Monday, raising the risk of slick spots along I-44 and I-64 between 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, wintry precipitation is expected to develop Sunday evening and continue into Monday morning. Not all areas will see accumulation, but a smaller corridor may receive heavier snow capable of sticking to roads and creating travel impacts. Exact placement of that heavier band remains uncertain.

Across eastern Missouri and southwest Illinois, precipitation type may vary. Areas south of I-44 could lean more toward rain at times, while locations near and north of I-70 have a higher chance of snow or a brief wintry mix. Along I-55, I-270 and I-255, elevated ramps and bridges will be most vulnerable to icing if temperatures hover near freezing overnight.

In St. Louis County and St. Charles County, even a quick inch of snow during the early morning commute could slow traffic significantly. Portions of Madison and St. Clair counties in Illinois may also see slushy buildup before temperatures gradually warm later Monday.

Drivers should reduce speeds, allow extra following distance and avoid sudden braking on untreated roads. Check MoDOT and IDOT updates before departing early Monday, and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions within short distances.

Precipitation is expected to taper or change to rain by late Monday morning. Additional advisories may be issued as confidence increases in where the heaviest snow sets up.
