Springfield, MO – The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a Wind Advisory for much of southwest Missouri, where gusts up to 45 mph are expected through Tuesday afternoon, especially along and west of Highway 65.
Forecasters say strong south to southwest winds will develop through the morning and continue into the evening. Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts approaching 40–45 mph may create hazardous travel conditions for high-profile vehicles and cause tree limbs to break or loose outdoor items to blow around.
“Travel may become difficult for high-profile vehicles. Loose objects may be blown around, and small limbs may break and fall,” the NWS cautioned in its early morning update.
Residents in cities including Springfield, Joplin, and Branson should secure outdoor decorations, trash bins, and lightweight items to prevent damage. Winds are expected to weaken late tonight as a weak front passes through the region.
No major precipitation is expected, but the gusty conditions will persist into early Wednesday before calmer, cooler weather returns midweek.
