Springfield, MO – Residents across the Missouri Ozarks are in for a frigid start to the week as an Arctic air mass grips the region tonight, driving wind chills into the single digits and teens by Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, overnight lows will dip into the upper teens to low 20s, with brisk northwest winds making it feel significantly colder. By Monday night, wind chills will again settle into the teens and low 20s, continuing the stretch of cold air through Tuesday morning.

Despite the chilly start, forecasters say a major warm-up is on the way. Daytime highs will climb from the upper 30s and low 40s on Monday to the 60s and 70s by Thursday and Friday, offering a sharp contrast to the early-week cold.

Residents are urged to protect pets, pipes, and plants during the coldest nights and to check on neighbors who may be sensitive to freezing conditions.

The NWS adds that dry weather is expected through midweek, though elevated fire danger could develop Tuesday as warmer, drier air returns.
