Springfield, MI – A series of vehicle break-ins at two Springfield car dealerships led to the arrest of a 28-year-old Battle Creek man this week. Authorities say more than ten vehicles were targeted in the incidents.

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded early Monday morning to reports of break-ins at Battle Creek Honda and Sunshine Toyota on West Dickman Road. Investigators said several vehicles inside a gated lot had been entered, while additional cars in unsecured areas were also damaged or had items stolen. Evidence and surveillance footage were collected as part of the investigation.

In the early morning hours Tuesday, deputies conducting a proactive check at Sunshine Toyota discovered burglary tools and encountered two suspects allegedly attempting to break into vehicles. Both fled on foot when deputies confronted them. One was arrested after a short chase, while the second suspect remains at large despite what officials described as an extensive search.

Deputies later executed a search warrant at the arrested suspect’s residence on North 23rd Street in Springfield, where several stolen items reportedly linked to the break-ins were recovered. The man was booked into the Calhoun County Jail on charges including breaking and entering, possession of burglary tools, resisting and obstructing arrest, and felony malicious destruction of property. Deputies also noted that he was on probation for controlled substance-related offenses at the time of his arrest.

The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities said the Battle Creek Police Department and the Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch Authority assisted in the case. Officials are urging anyone with information about the second suspect to contact Lieutenant Curtis Smith at 269-781-0880 or provide an anonymous tip through Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.
