Springfield, Ill. – Central Illinois will swelter through the weekend, with afternoon highs in the mid-90s and thick humidity making it feel even hotter. A small, 10% chance of a pop-up storm lingers tonight into Saturday morning, but most areas will remain dry.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, the airmass over the region will stay muggy and oppressive, with only brief relief after sunset. Another slim 10% chance of an isolated storm returns Saturday afternoon and evening, but any showers will be short-lived.

The heat will be most intense during peak afternoon hours, with Springfield expected to reach 95° Saturday, 96° Sunday, and 95° Monday.
