Springfield, IL – Central Illinois is bracing for severe thunderstorms and heavy rain through the upcoming weekend, with periods of intense weather expected to hit Friday night and continue into Saturday. A Marginal Risk for severe storms remains in effect for southern regions through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures will drop considerably on Saturday, with highs ranging between 59°F and 62°F. Saturday night will see temperatures as low as 47°F. On Sunday, the weather will warm up again, with highs reaching the mid-60s and overnight temperatures dropping to the low 50s.

Residents across Illinois are advised to prepare for potential severe weather, particularly in the southern regions, where damaging winds, hail, and heavy rainfall may occur. Breaks from storms are expected to be more frequent in northern parts of the state on Saturday.
