Springfield, Mo. – Flash flooding could threaten roads, creeks, and low-lying areas across southwest Missouri and southeast Kansas through Monday evening, as multiple rounds of heavy rain continue to drench the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, a Flood Watch remains in effect for over 40 counties, including Greene, Jasper, Pulaski, and Texas counties in Missouri, and Bourbon, Crawford, and Cherokee counties in Kansas. With saturated soil and high stream levels from earlier storms, even moderate rain could trigger localized flooding. The alert will remain active through 7 p.m. Monday.

Communities like Springfield, Joplin, Lebanon, and West Plains may see streets under water, and low-water crossings could quickly become impassable. Emergency officials urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roadways and to prepare for possible evacuation in flood-prone areas.

Rainfall totals may exceed 2 to 4 inches in some locations, compounding runoff concerns. This system follows a week of active storms across the Ozarks, adding pressure to already swollen rivers and creeks.

Residents are advised to monitor weather alerts, keep phones charged, and have a plan ready if conditions worsen. Additional Flood Warnings could be issued if rainfall intensifies or water levels rise further.
