Spokane, WA – Strong west to southwest winds are sweeping across eastern Washington and parts of north Idaho today, bringing gusts capable of blowing debris and creating hazardous travel conditions, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Spokane.

Forecasters expect widespread gusts of 35 to 45 mph, with the strongest winds—up to 50 mph—across the Cascades, Blue Mountains, and the Palouse region. The weather service cautions that these winds may lead to isolated tree damage, hazardous crosswinds, and blowing objects, especially on open highways and rural routes.

Winds are expected to remain elevated through the afternoon before gradually easing overnight. Motorists, particularly those driving high-profile vehicles, are advised to exercise caution and secure any outdoor items that could become airborne.

Today’s system marks a transition to a cooler, unsettled pattern for the early part of the week.
