Spokane, WA – A 61-year-old woman has been arrested on a second-degree arson charge following a trailer fire in southwest Spokane County Wednesday evening, as investigators continue looking into whether the incident is connected to several recent suspicious fires in the area.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Spokane County Fire District 3 firefighters responded around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2026, to reports of smoke and flames coming from a trailer in the 14700 block of South Ben Apple Road in southwest Spokane County.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze while deputies interviewed witnesses and launched an investigation. Authorities said the property has experienced several suspicious fires over the past month, prompting fire investigators and Major Crimes detectives to examine whether the incidents are related.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, investigators detained two adults during the investigation. The woman, identified as 61-year-old Georgia K. Williams, initially told investigators she and the trailer’s owner had been shopping when the fire started and had asked a neighbor to watch the property.

Investigators said evidence indicated Williams was the last person inside the trailer before smoke was observed. According to deputies, she later admitted to starting the fire and allegedly stated the male trailer owner had no knowledge of her actions. When asked why she started the fire, authorities said she reportedly answered “excitement” before saying she did not know.

Williams was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail on suspicion of second-degree arson. The male who had been detained was released without charges after investigators said they lacked evidence to support an arrest.

The investigation remains active. Authorities said they are reviewing evidence to determine whether Williams may be connected to previous suspicious fires at the same location. Additional charges or arrests remain possible.
