Darien, IL – A Homer Glen man will remain in custody after prosecutors accused him of breaking into a Darien home, injuring the homeowner and leading officers on a high-speed chase Tuesday.
According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, Judge Joshua Dieden granted the state’s request Thursday to deny pretrial release for 32-year-old Michael Lahey.
Lahey is charged with two counts of home invasion, a Class X felony; one count of aggravated fleeing and eluding, a Class 4 felony; and one misdemeanor theft count involving property valued at no more than $500.
Authorities said Darien officers responded at approximately 2:23 p.m. Tuesday to the 1400 block of Sequoia Lane after a homeowner reported a break-in. The victim directed officers toward a Ford Bronco allegedly leaving westbound at high speed.
Prosecutors allege Lahey drove over a curb, crossed a parking lot and reached speeds exceeding 75 mph in 35 mph zones during the pursuit. Officers later identified him as a suspect in the break-in, officials said.
Members of the DuPage County MERIT SWAT and Will County Sheriff’s Office SWAT teams arrested Lahey at his Homer Glen residence at approximately 6:54 p.m. after authorities obtained a search warrant.
Prosecutors allege Lahey broke a front window, threw glass at the homeowner and entered the residence. The glass allegedly caused a significant arm laceration and a cut to the victim’s torso. Lahey is also accused of taking the homeowner’s cellphone and striking him with a thrown stool.
The victim escaped through a rear door and was hospitalized with an arm laceration, torso puncture wound and stomach bruising.
Lahey’s next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 31, 2026. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
