Springfield, MO – Strong southwest winds are forecast to sweep across Missouri late tonight, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph by Wednesday. Drivers along I-44 should prepare for challenging travel conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles, and secure any loose outdoor items.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, the strongest winds will develop overnight and continue through midday Wednesday. Areas northwest of I-44 will experience the highest gusts. Small tree limbs may break, and loose debris could create additional hazards. The winds will gradually decrease Wednesday afternoon.

After the gusty conditions, temperatures will climb into the mid-50s Wednesday before a sharp cold front moves in overnight. Thursday’s highs are expected to drop into the low 30s, with wind chills ranging from 10 to 20 degrees. The week will end with slightly warmer conditions on Friday, reaching highs in the mid-40s.

Residents should take precautions tonight by securing lightweight objects and exercising caution while traveling on major roadways. While no severe storms are anticipated, the combination of strong winds and fluctuating temperatures could cause minor disruptions.

Looking ahead, the weekend offers a return to mild conditions, with Saturday’s highs near 53 degrees under sunny skies.

Stay informed by monitoring updates from the National Weather Service and preparing for potential impacts, especially if traveling on I-44 this week.
