Springfield, MO – A dramatic temperature drop is on the way for southwest Missouri this weekend as a strong cold front sweeps through the region, according to the National Weather Service in Springfield.
Saturday will start mild and breezy, with highs in the mid-60s to lower 70s and gusty westerly winds reaching up to 30 mph. By Saturday night, much colder air will arrive, sending overnight lows into the 30s.
Sunday will feel roughly 30 degrees colder than Saturday, with highs only in the upper 30s to mid-40s and continued gusty northwest winds making it feel even chillier. Small tree limbs may break, and high-profile vehicles could face travel difficulties due to the strong gusts.
The start of the workweek will remain cool and breezy, but temperatures are expected to rebound quickly by midweek. Highs will climb back into the 60s by Tuesday and Wednesday, with dry conditions and an elevated fire weather risk expected Tuesday due to warm, windy air returning.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items, prepare for a blustery weekend, and dress in layers as the sharp temperature swing hits.
