Grand Rapids, MI – Severe thunderstorms are set to develop Sunday afternoon across southwest Michigan, with damaging winds and hail threatening communities along and south of M46.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, scattered thunderstorms will begin forming late Sunday, especially in the southern portion of Lower Michigan. A few storms may become severe, producing heavy rainfall, strong wind gusts over 25 mph, and large hail. While the threat of tornadoes remains low, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out across southern counties including Calhoun, Jackson, and Kalamazoo.
Residents in Grand Rapids, Kent County, and surrounding areas should secure outdoor items and remain weather-aware through Sunday evening. While no spotter activation is expected, weather conditions may shift rapidly. Motorists on M46 and nearby routes should plan for reduced visibility and sudden downpours.
