Grand Rapids, MI – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through Wednesday evening, with hazardous conditions expected across southwest Michigan. Lake-effect snow will redevelop Wednesday morning, accompanied by gusty winds and plummeting wind chills.
According to the National Weather Service, areas west of US-131, from Holland to Reed City, could see up to six inches of snow by Wednesday night. Wind chills as low as -15°F will pose a frostbite risk for exposed skin in under 30 minutes. Drivers should anticipate snow-covered roads, blowing snow, and near-zero visibility.
Blowing snow is forecast to impact travel on key highways, including I-96 and US-131, especially during morning and evening commutes. Officials urge caution when traveling and recommend preparing emergency kits with blankets and food if venturing outdoors.
Wednesday’s high will reach 16°F, with snow tapering off by the evening. Overnight lows could fall to 10°F. Snow showers will continue Thursday morning, adding additional accumulations. Conditions are expected to improve by Friday, with temperatures climbing to 25°F under mostly cloudy skies.
Residents should monitor local forecasts and plan accordingly. Limit time outdoors and dress warmly to avoid frostbite.
