Lake Charles, LA – Residents of Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana should prepare for the impacts of Potential Tropical Cyclone 6, expected to intensify into a tropical storm Monday. The system, currently producing winds near 50 mph, is forecast to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane before making landfall along the Gulf Coast Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, tropical storm force winds could hit the region as early as Wednesday morning. Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana will likely experience sustained winds between 40 and 50 mph, especially along the Cameron and Vermilion coastlines.
Heavy rain and storm surges are also expected Tuesday through Thursday. The Weather Prediction Center forecasts excessive rainfall, with totals reaching 6-8 inches across the impacted areas. Flooding is possible, particularly in low-lying areas.
