Dodge City, KS – A marginal risk for severe weather is in place across portions of southwest Kansas Wednesday evening, with the potential for damaging winds and hail through midnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, isolated strong to severe thunderstorms could develop across the region from 7 p.m. CDT to 12 a.m. CDT Thursday. The storms are forecast to move into south-central Kansas after initially forming in the southwest. If they develop, wind gusts of up to 60 mph and hail up to 2 inches in diameter may occur.
Forecasters emphasize that storm development remains uncertain, with only a 20 percent chance of formation. However, due to favorable conditions, even isolated storms could produce localized severe impacts. Areas within the marginal risk zone include Dodge City, Liberal, and Garden City.
The storms are expected to remain scattered, limiting their overall coverage. However, residents are urged to remain weather-aware into the night and monitor alerts.
Preparedness tips include securing outdoor items, monitoring weather apps or NOAA Weather Radio for updates, and avoiding travel during storms if warnings are issued.
