Boise, ID – A powerful winter storm is bringing snow, freezing rain, and strong winds to southwest Idaho and eastern Oregon, creating hazardous travel conditions through Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Boise, the Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 a.m. MST (10 a.m. PST) Friday. Additional snowfall could reach up to 1 inch in the Boise metro area and up to 3 inches in the Lower Treasure Valley, while higher elevations could see 3 to 6 inches. Winds gusting up to 40 mphmay cause blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility.
The storm is affecting cities including Boise, Nampa, Caldwell, Twin Falls, Ontario, Baker City, and Mountain Home. The Treasure Valley and Western Magic Valley could see freezing rain late Thursday night into Friday morning, increasing the risk of slick roads and ice accumulation.
Travel conditions are expected to remain difficult, especially on highways and mountain passes. Motorists should use caution, allow extra travel time, and carry emergency supplies. Road updates are available by dialing 511 for both Idaho and Oregon.
Drivers should prepare for rapidly changing conditions, as freezing rain could make roads especially hazardous during the Friday morning commute.
