Mobile, AL – Residents across southern and central Alabama should prepare for bitterly cold conditions overnight into Friday morning as a cold weather advisory takes effect.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the advisory will be in place from midnight to 8 a.m. Friday, impacting areas including Mobile, Baldwin, and Escambia counties. Wind chills are forecasted to dip as low as 15 degrees, with actual air temperatures dropping below 30. Prolonged exposure to these temperatures could pose risks to humans, pets, and crops.

The NWS urges residents to wear layers, hats, and gloves if heading outdoors. Portable heaters should be used with caution indoors, and outdoor animals should have access to shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Sensitive plants should be covered or moved indoors.

Officials are also advising frequent checks on older family members and neighbors to ensure their safety during the advisory period.

Temperatures are expected to rise gradually by midday Friday, but the freezing conditions overnight mark the first significant cold snap of the season for the region.
