Milwaukee, Wis. – Urban flooding and small stream overflows are possible across southern Wisconsin through Wednesday as thunderstorms and heavy rain develop along a stalled front.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, storms will begin forming this evening near the Wisconsin-Iowa border and track eastward into central and southern Wisconsin. Thunderstorms could contain heavy downpours and small hail, with storm activity persisting overnight and intensifying again Wednesday afternoon.

Cities including Madison, Janesville, Waukesha, and Milwaukee have a 65–81% chance of receiving at least one inch of rain by late Wednesday. Elkhorn and Whitewater face the highest probabilities, with a localized 20–30% chance of over two inches. This increases the risk of urban street flooding, especially in low-lying areas and near small streams.

Residents are urged to avoid driving through water-covered roads and keep drainage systems clear. Storms may impact evening commutes and early school dismissals Wednesday, particularly near Cedar Rapids, Racine, and Kenosha.

Scattered showers may linger through early Thursday, but the heaviest rainfall threat is expected to taper off Wednesday evening. Additional advisories could be issued as the system evolves.
