Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms are expected to roll across Wisconsin Tuesday into Tuesday night, bringing the threat of strong storms and localized flooding across southern parts of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, wildfire smoke drifting from Canada will continue to impact visibility and air quality through Monday night. A cold front arriving Tuesday afternoon will trigger widespread showers and thunderstorms, some of which may be strong. Rainfall could be heavy at times, especially near Madison, Janesville, and Racine.

High temperatures Monday surged into the mid-80s across much of southern Wisconsin, but cooler air will follow the frontal passage. Cities along Lake Michigan, including Kenosha and Sheboygan, will see milder temperatures by Wednesday. The chance of precipitation peaks at 90% Tuesday evening, then tapers off Wednesday morning.

Drivers should prepare for reduced visibility due to smoke and the potential for ponding on roadways during heavier downpours. Residents are urged to seek shelter during lightning and avoid travel during peak storm hours.

Conditions begin to settle Wednesday, with drier and milder weather returning to the region.
