Sacramento, California – Strong winds and bone-dry air are setting the stage for dangerous fire conditions across Northern and Central California through 8 p.m. Monday, especially along the I-5 corridor and adjacent foothills.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 2 for areas including Redding, Chico, Sacramento, Fairfield, and Modesto. North to northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected, with gusts peaking near 40 mph. Relative humidity could drop as low as 9%.

The highest threat zone includes the western Sacramento Valley and adjacent Coastal Range. These conditions are favorable for rapid wildfire spread if ignitions occur.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, secure loose items that could spark, and ensure emergency kits are ready. Fire crews remain on alert, and power shutoffs may be possible if threats escalate.

This is the first Red Flag Warning of June and comes as vegetation across the region continues to dry rapidly.

Warnings remain in effect through 8 p.m. Monday, and further advisories may be issued if wind conditions persist.
