Salt Lake City, UT – A powerful winter storm is set to affect Southern and Central Utah, bringing heavy snow to mountain areas until Friday night.
A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Southern Mountains, including Alton and Brian Head, until midnight MDT Friday. Snowfall is expected to accumulate between 5 and 10 inches, with up to 12 inches in areas such as Boulder Mountain and the Tushar Range. A cold front will bring a burst of heavy snow Thursday afternoon and evening, with snow showers continuing late into the night. A second round of moderate snow is anticipated on Friday, particularly in the eastern portions of the region.
According to the National Weather Service, winter driving conditions will be challenging on high mountain routes, including SR-12 near Boulder Mountain. Travelers are urged to slow down and exercise caution on the roads.
For the Central Mountains, including Cove Fort, Fish Lake, and Joes Valley, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 9 PM MDT Friday. Snow accumulation of 4 to 9 inches is expected, with localized amounts reaching 12 to 14 inches at higher elevations. Heavy snow will arrive with the passing cold front, followed by lighter snow showers Thursday night and moderate snow Friday.
