Nashville, TN – A strong storm system is set to bring severe weather and widespread flash flooding to the South on Saturday, March 15, with Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and Kentucky at high risk. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of potentially significant rainfall leading to hazardous conditions.

According to the NOAA Weather Prediction Center, the storm will produce heavy rainfall across central and eastern portions of the U.S., with the highest flood risk in areas marked under a moderate risk zone, particularly in parts of Tennessee, Alabama, and northern Mississippi. Flash floods could occur rapidly, with some areas seeing several inches of rain within a short period.

Communities in Nashville, Memphis, Birmingham, and Louisville should prepare for dangerous travel conditions, road closures, and possible power outages. Low-lying and urban areas will be especially vulnerable to flash flooding, making it critical for residents to stay informed through weather alerts.

Authorities urge residents to take precautions, including avoiding flooded roadways, securing outdoor belongings, and having multiple ways to receive weather warnings. The NWS advises that even a few inches of moving water can be dangerous, emphasizing the motto: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
