Pueblo, Colo. – Cooler-than-average temperatures will linger across southern Colorado today, with highs running 5 to 10 degrees below seasonal norms. Scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms are likely, particularly across the southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains and near the New Mexico border, creating brief downpours and lightning risks for outdoor activities.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storm activity will be less intense and less widespread than recent days, but isolated cells could still bring gusty winds and small hail. The most active period for storms will be late afternoon through early evening, especially in higher elevations.

Travelers along I-25 from Trinidad to Pueblo should stay alert for sudden changes in visibility and slick roads during passing storms. While no widespread flooding is expected, brief heavy rain could impact low-lying areas. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and remain indoors during lightning activity.

Hotter and drier weather is expected to take hold from Tuesday through Thursday, pushing temperatures back to seasonal averages. Another round of moisture is forecast to arrive Friday, bringing increased chances for widespread showers and thunderstorms heading into the weekend.
