Dallas, TX – A dangerous fire weather event is expected across Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri on Friday, with extreme conditions creating a high risk for wildfires.
According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, strong winds between 25-40 mph, with gusts exceeding 60 mph, combined with low humidity levels of 10-20%, will create a volatile environment for fire outbreaks. Dry fuels across the region further increase the potential for rapid fire spread.
The highest risk areas include northwest Texas, much of Oklahoma, and southeast Kansas, where critical fire weather conditions will develop. Portions of eastern Kansas and western Missouri are also under elevated fire risk warnings.
Officials urge residents to exercise extreme caution with any activities that could ignite a fire, such as outdoor burning, using machinery that generates sparks, or discarding cigarettes improperly. Emergency responders advise staying alert for local fire warnings and evacuation orders if needed.
The Storm Prediction Center recommends closely monitoring weather updates and adhering to guidance from emergency management officials. Residents in affected areas should have an evacuation plan in place and remain vigilant as conditions develop throughout Friday.
