Medford, OR – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the South Central Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains from 4 a.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Saturday, with significant snowfall and strong winds expected to create hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulations of 12 to 24 inches are anticipated above 5,000 feet, with up to 30 inches possible on the highest peaks and ridgetops. Wind gusts as high as 50 mph will likely lead to areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility. Key affected routes include Highways 138 and 230 near Diamond Lake, Highway 62 near Crater Lake, and Highway 58 at Willamette Pass.
Officials warn that travel could become extremely difficult or even impossible at times, especially during the Friday morning and evening commutes and throughout the weekend. In addition to snow accumulation, gusty winds may bring down tree branches, increasing the risk of road hazards.
Travelers are urged to slow down, use caution, and check road conditions by calling 511 or visiting tripcheck.com before setting out.
