Medford, Ore. – Southern Oregon will see a wet and stormy start to the week as showers and possible thunderstorms move into the Rogue Valley Monday and linger through at least Wednesday. Drivers should prepare for slower commutes and slick roads as rainfall increases.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, rain chances climb to 80% Monday and remain elevated through Tuesday night. Thunderstorms are most likely after late morning hours both days, with localized downpours producing up to a quarter of an inch of rain. Higher totals are possible in storm cells.

Medford, Ashland, and Grants Pass will all feel the impact of the unsettled weather, with cooler highs in the mid-70s compared to Sunday’s upper 80s. Winds will also pick up, shifting northwest at 5 to 10 mph during the afternoons. Commuters on I-5 and area highways should expect reduced visibility and ponding on roadways during heavier rain.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor activities during thunderstorms and keep devices charged in case of isolated power outages.

The wet pattern is expected to ease by Thursday with drier skies returning late week. Another slight chance of showers may develop by Saturday, but forecasters note the second half of the week looks more stable.
