Providence, RI – Rhode Islanders wake up to damp streets and low clouds this morning as rain begins spreading north along the I-95 corridor. The air feels heavy, the wind steady—signaling another push of fall weather before colder, calmer days return for the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Norton, Massachusetts, steady rain will develop through midmorning, becoming heavier late in the day. East winds up to 25 mph and rainfall totals near 1 to 2 inches could slow commutes and create minor ponding on local roads. The strongest winds will sweep through coastal areas before tapering Friday.

Friday afternoon brings a quick turnaround—sun breaking through and highs near 55°F. From there, the weekend looks calm and bright, with Saturday and Sunday both sunny and seasonably cool, highs in the mid-50s and lows in the 30s. The crisp air will mark one of the last truly mild weekends before the seasonal shift deepens.

Looking ahead, forecasters are tracking a colder pattern developing across New England that could deliver Rhode Island’s first chance of snow by mid-November. Between November 8–21, models show cold air diving south from Canada, with a possible rain-to-snow changeover for northern Rhode Island and interior Massachusetts.

For now, keep umbrellas handy and expect a soggy start before sunshine returns Friday. But after that? Winter’s first hint may be less than two weeks away.
