Boston, MA – New England is in for an unusually warm November as temperatures continue to soar across Massachusetts and neighboring states this week. A significant temperature spike is forecasted on Wednesday, with potential record highs nearing 80°F in the Connecticut River Valley, a departure from typical autumn weather. However, this unseasonably mild and dry spell brings heightened fire risks, prompting officials to issue a fire weather warning across southern New England.
According to the National Weather Service, mild weather will continue through the week, with Wednesday expected to see the peak temperatures of 76°F to 80°F across much of the region. Winds are forecasted from the southwest at 10 to 20 mph, gusting up to 28 mph in some areas. This combination of warmth, wind, and low humidity will create ideal conditions for fires to spread rapidly. Residents are advised to avoid outdoor burning and to exercise caution with any potential ignition sources.
Following Wednesday, temperatures will gradually cool but remain above average. Thursday’s high is expected to reach 67°F, with sunny skies and a mild breeze from the northwest. Friday and Saturday will see highs around 55°F to 60°F, with clear skies continuing but no rain in sight. Only by Sunday might there be a slight chance of showers, with current forecasts suggesting a 30% chance in the afternoon.
Looking ahead, rain relief may finally arrive on Monday, but until then, the continued dry conditions pose an ongoing fire threat. Fire officials urge residents across Massachusetts, especially in rural and forested areas, to take extra precautions. Humidity is expected to remain between 55% and 65% this week, further contributing to the elevated fire risk.
