Salem, IN – Indiana State Police have arrested James Crawford Jr., a 32-year-old man from Salem, on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, for allegations of child molestation and several related crimes across two southern Indiana counties.
According to investigators, an investigation was initiated in February 2024 after a Washington County school resource officer reported a potential case of child molestation to Detective Travis Baker. Following a comprehensive investigation, including a sexual assault forensic examination and a forensic interview at a local child advocacy center, Detective Baker determined that illegal contact had occurred between the child and Crawford in both Washington and Clark Counties over several months.
Crawford faces multiple charges, including Level 1 and Level 4 felony counts of child molesting, tattooing a minor, child seduction, sexual misconduct with a minor, and child solicitation spread across the two counties. He was served arrest warrants while already incarcerated in the Washington County Jail on unrelated charges, with no bond for the Washington County charges and a $50,000 cash-only bond for the Clark County charges.
