Paducah, KY – Residents across southern Illinois and western Kentucky are preparing for potentially dangerous weather conditions starting Sunday afternoon and lasting through the evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across the Quad State region—covering southern Illinois, western Kentucky, southwest Indiana, and southeast Missouri—beginning Sunday and continuing into Sunday night. Forecast models indicate the storms may bring long-track tornadoes, wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, and large hail over two inches in diameter.
Spotter activation will likely be required Sunday evening due to the threat of severe weather. The National Weather Service is urging residents in impacted areas—such as Paducah, KY; Marion, IL; and Cape Girardeau, MO—to monitor alerts closely and have emergency plans in place.
More thunderstorms are forecast for midweek, with a strong chance of severe activity returning Wednesday and Thursday. Heavy rainfall could lead to localized flooding as the week progresses.
Residents should secure outdoor items, review shelter options, and charge mobile devices ahead of time. Travel could be impacted Sunday night, particularly along major corridors such as I-24 and I-57.
