Evansville, Indiana – A tornado watch is in effect across southern Illinois and southern Indiana until 10 p.m. CDT Wednesday, with severe thunderstorms capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service, the watch includes cities such as Centralia, Effingham, and Vincennes, and stretches east toward Terre Haute and Seymour. Storms may bring ping pong ball-sized hail and wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph.

Travel through key corridors like I-64, I-70, and I-57 may be dangerous as the evening progresses. Residents in rural counties like Clay, Lawrence, and Gibson should stay weather-aware and be ready to shelter quickly if warnings are issued. The risk of isolated tornadoes is elevated, particularly in southwest Indiana.

Power outages, tree damage, and brief road flooding are all possible. Emergency managers advise charging phones and avoiding unnecessary travel, especially after sunset when storm visibility drops.

The tornado watch expires at 10 p.m. CDT (11 p.m. EDT), but additional watches or warnings may follow as the storm system tracks eastward overnight.
