Southern Connecticut – A powerful storm system is bringing heavy rain, high winds, and a Flood Watch across southern Connecticut today. Residents are advised to take immediate precautions, as up to 4-5 inches of rain and wind gusts nearing 60 mph are expected to impact the area.

According to the National Weather Service, the Flood Watch remains in effect until 1 a.m. Thursday, while a High Wind Advisory will last from noon to 10 p.m. today. The storm may cause significant flooding of urban and low-lying areas, including roads near rivers and streams. Drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roadways and expect delays on major routes, including I-95 and the Merritt Parkway.

High winds will likely down trees and power lines, creating the risk of scattered outages. Loose outdoor objects, such as decorations, should be secured to avoid damage. Coastal areas may also experience minor tidal flooding during high tide periods.

Looking ahead, the rain is expected to taper off by Thursday morning, with sunny and breezy conditions returning for the day. Temperatures will remain cooler, with highs near 41°F through Friday. The weekend forecast includes mostly sunny skies Saturday and a 30% chance of rain Sunday.

Residents should monitor local weather updates and prepare for potential travel disruptions. Emergency services recommend keeping phones charged and having an emergency kit ready.
