Pueblo, Colorado – Severe thunderstorms and critical fire danger will grip southern and southeastern Colorado starting Friday and continuing through early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, strong to severe storms may develop Friday afternoon and intensify Saturday, especially east of I-25 and along Highway 50. Risks include hail up to 2.5 inches, 70 mph winds, and isolated tornadoes. Fire weather conditions will also spike, especially across the San Luis Valley and southern I-25 corridor. The highest threat zone includes La Junta east to the Kansas line.
Friday’s strongest storms are most likely near the New Mexico border. Lightning and gusty winds will extend into Saturday, with drier air on Sunday increasing wildfire potential. Pueblo and surrounding counties should avoid outdoor burning and secure lightweight objects.
