Pueblo, Colorado – Snow is already impacting high-elevation roads this morning, and travel across key mountain passes could become hazardous within hours as bands intensify through tonight.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12 a.m. Monday for much of the central and southern mountains. The heaviest snow is expected across the Sawatch Range and eastern San Juan Mountains, where totals between 5 and 10 inches are likely.
Travel routes including Monarch Pass (US-50), Wolf Creek Pass (US-160), and areas near Leadville along Highways 24 and 91 will see the most significant impacts. Snowfall rates may briefly exceed 1 inch per hour in stronger bands, quickly covering roads and reducing visibility. Lower elevations, including Colorado Springs and Pueblo, will see little to no accumulation but may experience cooler, unsettled conditions.
Drivers should prepare for winter conditions despite late April timing. Slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and check road conditions before heading into the mountains. Carry emergency supplies if traveling through high terrain.
Snow will taper off late tonight, with improving conditions expected by early Monday morning. Additional advisories could be extended if heavier bands persist longer than expected.
