Buffalo, New York – Drivers across western New York are facing sharply reduced visibility early this morning, with dense fog already limiting sightlines to near zero in some areas south of Lake Ontario.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, the fog will persist through mid-morning Sunday before gradually lifting. Visibility may drop below a quarter mile at times, especially along major corridors including I-90, I-290, and Route 33, creating hazardous travel conditions during the morning commute.
Communities from Buffalo to Rochester, including Niagara Falls and Batavia, are seeing the greatest impacts. Conditions will improve by late morning as clouds break and partial sunshine returns, pushing highs into the upper 50s to mid-60s this afternoon.
Motorists should slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra following distance. If visibility drops suddenly, avoid abrupt stops and consider delaying travel until conditions improve.
Dry and calmer weather continues into Monday, with highs climbing into the upper 60s and low 70s. Another system arrives Tuesday, bringing increasing chances for showers and renewed travel impacts. Additional updates are expected later this morning as visibility trends improve.
