Colorado Springs, CO – Breezy conditions and fire danger will dominate much of southern Colorado Thursday, followed by a sharp drop in temperatures and snow into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Red Flag Warning is in effect until 9 p.m. Thursday across areas including Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Fremont County, and the San Luis Valley. Winds are forecast to reach up to 60 mph, with humidity levels falling as low as 6%, creating critical fire weather conditions.
Strong southwest winds are expected throughout the day, increasing wildfire spread risks in dry areas. Residents are urged to avoid any activities that could ignite fires and to stay alert for blowing dust, which may reduce visibility on roadways.
A cold front arrives Thursday night, bringing rain and snow showers to Colorado Springs by early Friday. Snow is likely to continue through Saturday morning, with accumulations possible even at lower elevations, including Teller and El Paso Counties.
Drivers should use caution on mountain passes this weekend as snow levels drop to 4,000 feet. If traveling for Easter, plan for delays in the central and southern Rockies.
Temperatures are expected to rebound slightly by Sunday, with sunny skies returning into early next week.
