Flagstaff, AZ — Strong winds are sweeping across northern Arizona Thursday, with gusts expected to reach up to 50 mph, prompting a Wind Advisory for wide portions of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, the advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. MST to 8 p.m. MST April 17. Impacted areas include the Kaibab Plateau, Grand Canyon Country, Chinle Valley, Defiance Plateau, and White Mountains, along with cities such as Flagstaff, Snowflake, Holbrook, and Window Rock.

Winds from the southwest will blow steadily at 20 to 30 mph with stronger gusts potentially affecting high-profile vehicles. Travel may be hazardous for RVs, campers, and tractor-trailers, especially on open roads and elevated highways.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items that may be blown around or damaged by the wind. These gusty conditions follow a clear and cool night in Flagstaff, where temperatures dipped to 38°F.

Later in the week, rain and snow showers are expected to develop, with Friday and Saturday likely to bring additional weather-related travel concerns. Motorists should monitor local alerts and use caution throughout the region.
