Pueblo, Colorado – Scattered afternoon thunderstorms could bring hail and damaging winds to southeast Colorado on Thursday as temperatures soar into the 90s.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, isolated to scattered storms will develop Thursday afternoon and evening across the southeast plains, especially near La Junta, Springfield, and Las Animas. Some storms may become strong, producing hail up to 1 inch in diameter and wind gusts up to 60 mph.
Temperatures will spike well above average, with highs reaching 95°F in Las Animas, 94°F in Ordway, and 91°F in Pueblo. Cities including Trinidad, Eads, and Lamar will also see highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. The hottest areas are also most likely to experience storm development by late afternoon.
Travelers along Highway 50 and I-25 should remain alert for sudden downpours, strong crosswinds, and reduced visibility. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, monitor local alerts, and avoid open fields during storm activity.
Storms may linger into Thursday night before clearing. More summer weather and scattered storm chances continue through the weekend.
