Los Angeles, CA – The US National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a heat advisory from Saturday through Thursday, with interior areas expected to reach highs of 108 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service, the heat wave brings a significant risk of heat-related illnesses and an increased threat of grassfires. In addition, subtropical moisture is forecasted to move over the area, bringing a slight chance of thunderstorms south of Point Conception from Saturday night through Sunday. This weather pattern could impact beach areas, prompting the advisory for residents and visitors to seek shelter immediately if thunder is heard.
The advisory highlights that widespread highs of 96-108 degrees are anticipated across the mountains and interior valleys, while coastal areas and foothills could see temperatures ranging from 85-100 degrees. Dry conditions are expected through Saturday, with relative humidity levels as low as 8-15% in the mountains and Antelope Valley, and 15-25% elsewhere.
The potential for thunderstorms carries additional risks, including heavy downpours and gusty winds. The National Weather Service advises the public to avoid leaving humans or animals in parked cars and to stay hydrated. Elevated risks of large grass fires are also a concern during this period.
