Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Additional snow is expected to develop across southeast Wisconsin Tuesday evening, with 2 to 4 inches of accumulation forecast for much of the area, according to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan.
Forecasters say snow is expected to begin between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday, increase in intensity overnight, and then taper off Wednesday morning. The heaviest snowfall is expected during the late evening and overnight hours, which could create slick and hazardous travel conditions.
While most areas are forecast to receive between 2 and 4 inches, the National Weather Service notes there is potential for a narrow band of heavier snow producing 4 to 6 inches. The exact placement of this heavier band remains uncertain and could shift north or south as the system develops. Confidence in placement is expected to improve closer to the event.
Areas across Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, Madison, and surrounding communities are included in the general snowfall forecast zone. Even modest changes in storm track could lead to notable differences in accumulation over short distances.
According to the National Weather Service, snow is expected to peak between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 5 a.m. Wednesday, increasing the likelihood of overnight and early morning travel impacts. Reduced visibility, snow-covered roads, and slick conditions are possible, particularly on untreated roadways, bridges, and overpasses.
Commuters heading out early Wednesday should be prepared for lingering slick spots, even as snowfall begins to diminish. The snow is expected to end by mid to late Wednesday morning.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts, allow extra travel time, and use caution if driving during the overnight hours. Confidence in snow placement and totals will increase as the event approaches.
