Milwaukee, WI – An extreme cold warning remains in effect for southeastern Wisconsin, including Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha, until noon Tuesday. Wind chills as low as 35 degrees below zero pose significant risks for frostbite and hypothermia.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), additional impacted areas include Madison, Sheboygan, and Waukesha. Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes in these conditions. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity and wear multiple layers, including hats, gloves, and face masks, if they must go outside.

The bitter cold is expected to subside after midday, but temperatures will remain below freezing throughout the day. Officials recommend taking precautions to prevent water pipes from freezing, such as wrapping or allowing them to drip slowly.

Pets and livestock should be kept indoors or provided with adequate shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Residents should also check on older neighbors, friends, and family members who may require assistance.

Travelers should prepare for icy roads and potential delays as the cold snap continues. Stay updated on weather developments and take necessary precautions to stay safe in the extreme cold.
