Houston, TX – A dense fog advisory is in effect for Southeast Texas marine areas, including Galveston Bay and Matagorda Bay, until 10 a.m. CDT Sunday, impacting visibility and navigation safety across nearshore Gulf waters.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, visibility has dropped rapidly near the Galveston Bay Entrance and nearby Gulf waters as of Saturday evening. While fog was slower to develop farther down the coast near Matagorda Bay, forecasters expect dense fog to form throughout the night.

The advisory covers Galveston Bay, Matagorda Bay, and coastal waters from High Island to the Matagorda Ship Channel extending out 20 nautical miles. Mariners in the area are urged to navigate with extreme caution as visibility may fall between 1/4 and 1/2 nautical miles.

The National Weather Service recommends using radar, compass navigation, and proper fog signals if travel is necessary. All running lights should be turned on to enhance vessel visibility.

This weather pattern, common in spring months across Southeast Texas, may linger in low-lying and humid marine environments. Mariners should monitor updates and consider delaying trips until conditions improve after 10 a.m. Sunday.
