Houston, TX – Residents across Houston and the surrounding metro area are being advised to limit outdoor activity Monday, October 13, as the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an Air Quality Alert due to expected high ozone levels.

According to the US National Weather Service Houston–Galveston, calm weather and warm temperatures near 90 degrees will create conditions favorable for increased ozone pollution throughout the day. The alert covers Harris, Galveston, Brazoria, Fort Bend, and Montgomery counties, where ozone concentrations may reach levels considered unhealthy for sensitive groups, including children, older adults, and those with respiratory conditions.

NWS officials encourage residents to limit driving, carpool when possible, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity, particularly during the afternoon when ozone levels peak. Morning lows in the upper 50s will quickly rise into the upper 80s to near 90 by midday, further supporting ozone formation.

While skies are expected to remain mostly clear, residents are urged to stay informed through weather.gov/Houston for updated air quality readings and health advisories.
