Detroit, MI – A sharp cold front moving into Michigan Friday will bring snow, icy roads, and dangerously low temperatures this weekend. Motorists traveling on I-75 and surrounding roadways should expect delays as snow and ice accumulate by Friday night.
According to the National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac, snowfall is expected early Friday morning and will mix with freezing rain by the evening. A total of 1 to 3 inches of snow is possible in southeast Michigan, with some areas seeing ice accumulation. Saturday will bring bitter cold, with afternoon temperatures dropping into the teens and wind chills as low as -10°F.
Authorities urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare vehicles with emergency kits, including blankets, water, and flashlights. For those heading outdoors, frostbite can occur within minutes in extreme conditions. Wear insulated clothing and limit time exposed to the wind.
By Sunday, conditions will improve slightly, but temperatures will remain frigid, with highs only in the upper teens. Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, is forecast to be the coldest day, with a high of 9°F and wind chills plunging to -20°F.
Residents should monitor the latest forecasts and updates through the National Weather Service and local authorities. Take precautions now to stay safe as the cold front settles over Michigan.
