Detroit, MI – An arctic cold front will grip southeast Michigan starting Sunday, bringing plummeting temperatures and icy conditions through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), today’s rain and snow mix will taper off this morning as winds shift northwest and gust up to 25 mph. Afternoon temperatures will drop steadily, hitting single digits by Sunday night.

Sunday will remain mostly cloudy with a high near 20°F. By evening, temperatures will plunge to around 0°F, with wind chills making it feel even colder. The coldest air of the season arrives Monday, with highs between 7°F and 12°F and lows near -10°F overnight. Scattered lake-effect snow showers are expected, creating slick road conditions on major thoroughfares such as I-94 and I-75.

The NWS advises residents to prepare for the dangerously cold weather by dressing in layers, keeping emergency kits in vehicles, and limiting time outdoors. Drivers should check road conditions before traveling and watch for black ice on untreated roads.

Looking ahead, temperatures will remain frigid Tuesday, with highs near 5°F and lows dipping to -8°F at night. Gradual relief begins Wednesday, with sunny skies and highs near 12°F.
